The Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour is responsible for economic policy issues, enterprises, innovation and technology, Austria's foreign trade, the Austrian labour market, labour law and employee protection.
Energy policy, energy supply, tourism and mining also fall within the competence of this ministry. And the maintenance and administration of numerous sate-owned historical buildings are further relevant tasks.
In co-operation with the so-called "subordinated" bodies such as e.g. the Public Employment Service, the Labour Inspectorates, the Administration of Federal Movable Property or the Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying, approx. 5,000 persons work partly "around the clock" in the interest of the citizens in their economic environment. They offer information, advice and assistance on how to access legislation. By rendering efficient services they wish to strengthen the goodwill of, and confidence in, the public administration and safeguard legal security, objectivity and quality.
The Ministry sees itself as a strong partner for economy and, consequently, for securing employment, aiming at the creation of optimum frame conditions for Austrian industry and for safeguarding the business location Austria in the light of global competition.
